*Virtual* Holiday Market
Ecommerce Workshop
The videos below are recordings of the 2 session workshop, put here so you can watch at your leisure ! For the first session we had 3 presentations, one about picking your product with Elise from BFF & LikeMindedObjects. Next we had Alex Petraglia of the Hudson Business Coalition and Hudson City Digital sharing with us his perspective on picking an ecom platform. Then we had Hillary France from Brand Assembly and Wylde Hudson sharing knowledge around organizing the back end of your shop. In the second class we focused on storytelling, photography and spreading the word, Elise’s special guest was Angelina Dreem, a photographer and creative director who shared a lot of DIY home photography tips with a focus on lighting and the “honest product shot”. Enjoy!
the 6 topics we are tackling in this workshop
(3 each week)
Product
Pick one product as your “hero product” to promote. It should be the natural magnet of your collection, beautiful & embodying the ethos of your business and you should be ready to sell/pack/ship multiples :)
Storytelling
We each have a unique story and approach to our business. People want to know The Who, what , where , when & why of your business. Primarily what you sell and how we can buy it. Find a nice way to tell that story in 3 sentences or less :)
Platform
Pick your e-comm platform. We recommend checking out Etsy, Squarespace, Square or Shopify. Each has a free template option, so you can experiment before you commit to paying a fee.
Photography
As they say, An image is worth a thousand words! From product photography to more editorial images telling the story of how things are made or the lifestyle of living with your goods, images can inspire people to purchase your goods. We will go over DIY home photography tips for good lighting, composition etc.
Organization
Prepare your web shop back end organization so you don’t have to redo it later ! Spreadsheets with typologies that separate your product by function, style, material, color etc will help you create SKU numbers.
Spreading the Word
BFF Virtual Holiday Market is one platform to attract people to your site, but we all need to strategize reaching out via our communities, industries etc. People can’t shop with you if they don’t know how to find you. Whether you prefer Facebook, Instagram, Newsletters , etc, its time to think beyond the in person marketplace.
